Performance Training for the Clinical Athlete

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This two-day seminar is designed to bridge the gap between physical therapy and athletic performance training.  The concepts and principles presented will emphasize current and innovative approaches to the implementation of movement, speed, and strength exercises for the patient who will resume athletic competition. Teaching methods will include lecture (60%), video, workshop demonstration, and lab practice (40%).  The focus of the seminar is on immediate clinical application of evidence-based practice techniques.

 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Following completion of the program the participant will be able to:
  1. transition the athletic patient from terminal rehabilitation phases to competitive sports

  2. integrate the functional anatomy and physiology of the athlete into clinicians plan of care 

  3. explain basic movement mechanics as they relate to dynamic warm up, deceleration, acceleration, change of direction, and maximal speed

  4. observe and identify movement and strength deficiencies

  5. recognize and implement injury prevention movement patterns and applicable strength exercises 

  6. recognize and implement performance movement patterns and applicable strength exercises

  7. explain the theories, principles, and practice of movement mechanics 

  8. analyze, explain and perform movement mechanics for the clinical athlete 

  9. analyze, explain and perform strength mechanics for the clinical athlete 

  10. apply functional evaluation philosophies and techniques

  11. implement a marketing plan for performance training services

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES

Bob Marwood, PT, ATC, CSCS

Mr. Marwood, manager/partner of Pinnacle Physical Therapy, is a licensed physical therapist, certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. Bob is regarded as a leader in the field of sports physical therapy. Bob has provided physical therapy and injury prevention services to athletes of all ages since 1989. He is currently the rehab consultant for many local area high schools.

 

Frank Ceresoli, MS, ATC/L, CSCS, PES, NSCA-CPT

 Mr. Ceresoli has been involved in sports medicine and athletic performance training for the past 10 years. Frank earned his Master of Science in Kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University at Buffalo. He is a certified athletic trainer, certified strength and conditioning specialist, performance enhancement specialist and certified personal trainer. A former Director of Sports Training at Cris Carter’s FAST Program in South Florida, Frank has trained hundreds of high school, collegiate and elite professional athletes in sport specific speed mechanics, strength development and injury prevention. His career highlights include producing the #2 overall NFL Draft pick in 2003 and training the IBF Light Heavyweight Champion, Glen Johnson, in his victory fight over Roy Jones, Jr.
